Saeid Mirzaei Yengejeh holds a PhD. in international law from the Law Faculty of the University of Ottawa (2016). He also holds a PhD. in political science from Osmania University (India), a Master’s Degree in international law and relations from Tehran University (Iran) and a diploma in international criminal law from Salzburg Law School (Austria).

Mr. Mirzaei has over 30 years of experience at the United Nations, as an international civil servant and a governmental representative. He served as a legal officer in the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations from 2003 through 2008 and in 2011. He also served as a delegate to the Sixth Committee (legal) of the General Assembly of the United Nations for 11 years (1989-1994 and 1997-2002).

While serving at the United Nations, Mr. Mirzaei contributed to international negotiations on several legal topics and led a number of committees. He chaired the United Nations Charter Committee in 2000; and coordinated two working groups of the Preparatory Commission on the Establishment of the International Criminal Court (2001-2002), which prepared the rules of procedure of the Assembly of States Parties and the election procedures of high officials of the Court. He also coordinated positions of the Non-Aligned Movement during the negotiations on the establishment of the International Criminal Court, from 1998 to 2002.

Dr. Mirzaei taught several courses on different aspects of international law and relations, including, law of treaties, peaceful settlement of disputes and consular and diplomatic law, from 1994 to 1997, at the Faculty of International Relations in Tehran. While working at the United Nations, he coached six groups of students from the Law Faculty of Columbia University, who prepared dozens of studies on the application and interpretation of Charter articles for the Repertory of Practice of United Nations Organs.

While enrolled in the PhD program of Law Faculty of Ottawa U, Mr. Mirzaei taught a seminar on Documenting the UN Practice, for six years, under overall supervision of Professor McRae. Students participating in this seminar prepared thirty-six studies on the practice of UN Organs on many Charter articles. These studies were submitted to the United Nations and were incorporated in its legal publications entitled “Repertory of Practice of United Nations Organs

At the same time, Mr. Mirzaei taught a seminar on the Law of International Organizations, in 2012 and 2013. He repeated this seminar in January 2018, with a simulation of the Security Council addressing North korea’s nuclear weapons issue.

He atught public international law at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) durin fall 2017 session.
