Leslie Walden is the Professional Responsibility Service (PRS) Legal Counsel for the Department of Justice Canada, and his practice is focused on professional responsibility and legal ethics issues that involve the Department’s legal community.
Leslie is a graduate of the faculty of Common Law at the University of Ottawa, and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario. As a Justice Canada counsel, Leslie completed his articles with the former Federal Prosecution Service, has worked in various Departmental Legal Services Units, the Aboriginal Affairs Portfolio and the Professional Development Division, where he led the development and delivery of the first national training initiative on diversity for all Justice Canada employees. He is also past Chair of the Justice Canada Advisory Committee on Visible Minorities and of the Paralegal Working Group.
As PRS Counsel, Leslie provides professional responsibility advice, guidance, and training to the Justice legal community, acts as the designated Departmental representative on professional responsibility matters with the legal profession, and chairs the Department’s Professional Responsibility Study Group. In 2018, Leslie coordinated the development and delivery of the first Justice Canada Forum on professional responsibility and legal ethics issues associated with the use of artificial intelligence tools in the legal profession. He is also a member of the Ethics & Professional Responsibility Sub-Committee of the Canadian Bar Association, and the Canadian Association for Legal Ethics.
