Kevin Mead

Biographie

Kevin is an international lawyer with the Oceans and Environmental Law section of the Legal Bureau at Global Affairs Canada. He advises for the Government of Canada on several multilateral environmental treaties, specializing in climate change. Kevin is Canada’s legal advisor at negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement and is also Canada’s lead negotiator for the development of the mechanism to facilitate implementation and promote compliance under the Paris Agreement. Kevin is also legal advisor for the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer and represented Canada on the legal experts drafting group during the 2016 ‘Kigali Amendment’ negotiations to phase down the production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons, a potent group of greenhouse gases.

Kevin graduated from the University of Ottawa’s English Common Law program in 2011 and articled in commercial and civil litigation in Toronto before moving back to Ottawa to pursue a career in the federal public service. In his spare time, he enjoys the simpler things in life including being out in nature, cycling, playing violin and spending time with friends and family.
