Adrian Johnston is counsel in the Civil Litigation Section of the Department of Justice, where he represents the Government of Canada in a wide range of private and public law matters before the Federal Court, Ontario Superior Court, and administrative tribunals.

Previously, Adrian was counsel in the Trade Law Bureau at Global Affairs Canada. He represented Canada in international trade negotiations, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and investor-State arbitrations, including the Eli Lilly & Company v. Canada NAFTA Chapter Eleven dispute.

In 2012-2013, Adrian served as Law Clerk to Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin at the Supreme Court of Canada.

Adrian holds a law degree from the University of Toronto, and is called to the Bar in Ontario.

Prior to his legal studies, Adrian obtained an M.Phil in International Relations from the University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.

Adrian holds a B.A. in Economics and Philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead-Cain Scholar.
