Professor Foord has taught Trial Advocacy at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law for the past six years. He formerly lectured at the Ontario Bar Admissions Course and is a frequent speaker at a number of continuing legal education programs.
Professor Foord is a partner at the Ottawa law firm, Foord Davies LLP. He obtained his B.A. (Hons.) Degree in English and Philosophy from the University of Toronto in 1992 and his LL.B. from Queens University in 1996. Since his call to the Bar in 1998, his practice has focused primarily on criminal trial and appellate law. His practice also includes the defence of individuals charged with regulatory offences and those facing professional disciplinary bodies.
Professor Foord has appeared as counsel before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice.
Professor Foord is very active in the Ottawa legal community. He is the current President of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa, having previously served as a Director from 2005 to 2009. He has been the co-chair of the Montebello Criminal Law Conference since 2005, and is a past Trustee of the County of Carleton Law Association.
Professor Foord is currently a member of the Ontario Bar Association’s Law Day Committee and has appeared as counsel at the annual Law Day mock trial in Ottawa for the past seven years. He is also an original performer and present sponsor of the Annual Reach Canada Lawyer’s Comedy Night. In 2012, he received the Reach Canada Volunteer of the Year award.
In 2006, Professor Foord received the Regional Senior Justice Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution as a litigator.
