Vice-Dean and Professor of Law Carissima Mathen recently premiered her new book, Courts Without Cases: The Law and Politics of Advisory Opinions, at the Metropolitan Brasserie in Ottawa’s Byward Market. Courts Without Cases is the first comprehensive legal treatment of the distinctive Canadian phenomenon of “references”, legal proceedings where questions are put to the Court by Cabinet, rather than arising through a live case.
The Honourable Emile Rosario Millette, LLB 1961, has passed away at the age of 83. After attending Gravelbourg College in Saskatchewan at the young age of 11, Justice Millette graduated from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law school in 1961, and was called to the bar in April 1963.
On May 6, 2019, the Faculty of Law lost a true friend and visionary in Anne McDougall. Over the course of the last two decades, Mrs. McDougall and her family supported the Faculty of Law financially, personally and emotionally.
