Biography

Leslie Walden is the Professional Responsibility Service (PRS) Legal Counsel for the Department of Justice Canada, and his practice is focused on professional responsibility and legal ethics issues that involve the Department’s legal community.

Leslie is a graduate of the faculty of Common Law at the University of Ottawa, and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario. Leslie has had a diverse legal career with the Department of Justice, including completing his articles with the former Federal Prosecution Service, working in various Departmental Legal Services Units, the Aboriginal Affairs Portfolio and the Professional Development Division, where he led the development and delivery of the first national training initiative on diversity for all Justice Canada employees. Leslie is also past Chair of the Justice Canada Advisory Committee on Visible Minorities and of the Paralegal Working Group.

As PRS Counsel, Leslie chairs the Department’s Professional Responsibility Study Group, is the designated Departmental representative on professional responsibility and legal ethics matters with the legal profession, and provides professional responsibility training to the Justice legal community. In 2018, Les coordinated the development and delivery of the first Justice Canada Forum on professional responsibility and legal ethics issues associated with the use of artificial intelligence tools in the legal profession. He is also a member of the Canadian Association for Legal Ethics and the Canadian Bar Association.
