Biography

Stéphane Sérafin is a graduate of the Programme de droit canadien (PDC) at the University of Ottawa and holds a Master of Laws from the University of Toronto. He is also a member of the Law Society of Ontario and the Barreau du Québec and has previously worked in private practice in the areas of aboriginal law, commercial law and civil litigation.

Professor Sérafin’s research relates primarily to private law theory, with a particular emphasis on the relationship between contract and property law within the common law tradition. His perspective on the topic is shaped most notably by his bijural background and by his interest in comparative law, legal history and moral and political philosophy.

Before joining the Common Law Section, he also worked as a law clerk at the Federal Court, as a part time professor at Carleton University, and was an Editor of the Ottawa Law Review.
