University of Ottawa Chancellor and Faculty of Law alumnus Calin Rovinescu (LL.B. 1980), Honourary Doctorate Recipient Cindy Blackstock (D.U. 2018) and Sharon Sholzberg-Gray, Advisory Committee member for the Centre for Health Law, Policy and Ethics have been appointed to the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours. The Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
Chancellor Rovinescu has been appointed a Member of the Order of Canada for promoting the associated charitable causes and organizations of Canada’s largest airline, and for his leadership in spearheading humanitarian relief following several natural disasters.
Dr. Blackstock was honoured as an Officer of the Order of Canada for her leadership as a champion of Indigenous children and for her efforts to build a culture of reconciliation.
Sharon Sholzberg-Gray was also appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada for her leadership in health care, notably for her advocacy for access to publicly funded and accessible health care services for all Canadians.
Chancellor Rovinescu, Dr. Blackstock and Ms. Sholzberg-Gray were part of the 105 members announced by the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, on June 29, 2018. They will receive their insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
