Professor Morales is increasingly recognized as one of our nation’s leading scholars on Indigenous issues, with a specific focus on Indigenous laws and legal traditions. Her research provides practical perspectives on important issues of Indigenous law, and helps to connect the legal community with matters of great relevance to Indigenous communities in their everyday lives. Membership in the Global Young Academy will allow Professor Morales to benefit from increased exposure to Indigenous experiences outside of Canada, while her cultivated experience with Canada’s reconciliation efforts will be of great benefit to other global scholars working on issues of Indigenous rights and international human rights.
The GYA provides a rallying point for outstanding young scientists and scholars from around the world, developing, connecting, and mobilizing new talent from six continents. The Academy seeks to empower young researchers to lead international, interdisciplinary, and intergenerational dialogue with the goal to make global decision making evidence-based and inclusive.
Also selected to join the GYA, from the Faculty of Law’s Civil Law Section, was Professor Marie-Eve Sylvestre. Professor Sylvestre has emerged as a true pioneer in exposing invisible practices of discrimination and injustice against marginalized and poor populations in the criminal justice system.
Congratulations to Professor Morales!
