Jolene Hansell, J.D. 2018, Chosen to be Justice Gascon’s clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada

Jolene Hansell, J.D. 2018, has been chosen to clerk with Justice Gascon at the Supreme Court of Canada.

During her time at the University of Ottawa, Ms. Hansell was an active member of two competitive moot teams –  the Jessup Cup moot as well as the Skadden Arps Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) moot. This is something that has been undertaken by only a handful of students in recent history. She was also a Dean’s Legal Research and Writing Fellow, an opportunity granted to a select group of upper year students.

Since graduating from the Faculty of Law’s Common Law Section in 2018, Ms. Hansell has been articling in Toronto, while continuing to support the mooting program here at the University of Ottawa. She was a coach for the Jessup team, as well as for the FDI moot team. In regards to the latter, Ms. Hansell provided comments on factum drafts, oral practices, and attended the Global Finals in Stockholm. The 2018 team finished third in the world.

Ms. Hansell is finishing her articles in Toronto and will clerk with the Ontario Court of Appeal in 2019-2020 before starting at the Supreme Court of Canada.
