Jennifer Chandler Named Interim Director of Centre for Health Law, Politics and Ethics

Beginning July 1, 2020, for one year, current Director of the Centre for Health Law, Policy and Ethics, Professor Colleen Flood, will be going on sabbatical. We are excited to announce that the acting Director for the Centre will be Professor Jennifer Chandler.

Professor Chandler has been a core member of CHLPE since its inception, leading its work on multidisciplinary bioethics. She holds the University’s Bertram Loeb Chair and serves on external committees like CIHR’s Institutional Advisory Board for Neuroscience, Mental Health Addictions. She chairs the Canadian Society of Transplantation’s Ethics Committee and leads the international research and policy group Neuroethics Panamericana. Her research focuses on intersections between neuroscience/psychiatry and the law as well as issues of organ donation law and policy. She can be seen recently speaking in our Café Scientifique on Organ Donation in February (click to watch).

Professor Chandler will be supported by the CHLPE’s new Associate Director, Pascal Thibeault. Pascal is an expert in health and technology law. Before joining the Centre, he was in-house counsel at Cision in Toronto. Pascal has degrees in Law from Laval University, Harvard University and the University of Toronto. During his studies, Pascal was a CIHR Fellow in Health Law, Ethics, and Policy, as well as a Summer Fellow at Yale University. His graduate research focused on using behavioural economics to improve health outcomes.
