Tara Hristov, JD ’20, was one of the four top nominees for the Gee-Gees women's teams’ Athlete of the Year Award. What a great way to end her athletic career with the Gee-Gees! In addition to this year’s award, she was previously nominated for the uOttawa Competitive Club Female Athlete of the Year in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015.

Tara has been a member of the Gee-Gees water polo team since 2012. She is recognized as a “versatile player who starts at driver who is adept both offensively and defensively. “

Tara discovered water polo with the Ottawa-based Titans at the recreational level in 2004, and then moved on to competitive the following year. As early as 2007, she participated in provincial- and national-levels competition, and made it to Team Ontario two years later (2009-2013). In 2011, she played on the ‘93 Youth National Team and in 2012 played on the Junior National Team.

During her athletic career, Tara has earned many recognitions. She was named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Women's Water Polo Player of the Year in 2015, an  OUA Water Polo All-Star  in 2013 and 2016 and the National Collegiate Water Polo (NCWP) All-Star Team in 2019.

She has helped lead uOttawa to back-to-back championship games and is graduating from the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section this year. She is also a uOttawa Social Sciences alumna where she obtained her joint BSSc ’16 in Political Science and Communications.

‘Playing on the Gee-Gees Water Polo Team was one of the main highlights of my university experience. I was lucky to have such a great group of teammates and coaches over the years who kept me fit, motivated and in good spirits.’ – Tara Hristov, JD ‘20

We would like to extend our congratulations to all the other student-athletes who were nominated as well as the winners. We recognize the dedication required to be a full- time student as well as a high performing athlete. Kudos!
