The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple travelled to Canada from London in September for their 2019 Amity Tour and stopped in Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto. Two distinguished Canadian jurists were made honorary benchers of the Middle Temple during this tour: uOttawa grads Sheila Block LL.B. 1972 and the Rt. Hon. Richard Wagner, LL.L. 1979.
Canadian lawyer and University of Ottawa law school alumnus Dudley Maseko, JD ‘15, has established an academic scholarship program at Africa’s top-ranked university, the University of Cape Town, in Cape Town, South Africa.
MakerLaunch is an initiative that supports University of Ottawa students or recent alumni in their entrepreneurial goals by helping them to launch new start-ups and fast track the commercialization of their technologies.
The program was founded by University of Ottawa alumni and is managed by two-time alumna Midia Hassan. In addition to access to a pool of talent, mentors and coaches, the program offers entrepreneurs a seed grant of $50,000 earned over nine months of milestones.
May was a proud month for the Common Law Section as we hosted two separate events to celebrate our alumni and honour our 2018 Common Law Honour Society inductees.
Surrounded by their family, friends, members of the legal community, and fellow alumni, Chief Justice Paul Crampton, LL.B. 1985, Justice Michelle O’Bonsawin, LL.B. 1998, and Ms. Audrey Ramsay, LL.B. 1993 were all named to the Honour Society.
In 1992, Jim Gatley, LLB 1994, decided to gather some of his classmates together and created a hockey league to help manage the stresses that can come with attending law school. 25 years later, the tradition continues and their kids have been welcomed onto the ice with them.
