On November 27, 2020, Governor Julie Payette announced 114 new appointments to the Order of Canada, including the Honourable Allan Rock, LLB ’71. Allan Rock is President Emeritus of the University of Ottawa, and a Professor in the Common Law Section of the Faculty of Law where he teaches International Humanitarian Law and Armed Conflict in International Law. He is also a member of the Common Law Honour Society.
On November 16, a United Nations Security Council’s simulation with Common Law students representing council members took place as part of Dr. Saeid Mirzaei Yengejeh’s Law of International Organizations course. The mock Security Council considered ways of combating the COVID-19 pandemic and unanimously passed a resolution calling for coordinated action to address the multidimensional aspects of this catastrophe.

Samantha has joined the Faculty of Law on a part-time basis for the 2020-2021 academic year as the Black Legal Mentor-in-Residence. In this role, Samantha will provide one-on-one and group academic and career mentorship to Black law students, and will provide expertise in the development of supportive programming and anti-racism initiatives.
