George Cyril House, Q.C., LL.B. 1962, passed away on June 23 at the age of 82. After graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts and then earning an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa, George practiced law in the Ottawa region for more than 45 years. He was a well-known lawyer and Deputy-Judge, and served as an Executive Board member for Canada Basketball and Tennis Canada.

These particular Board placements would have come to no surprise to anyone who knew George in his school days, as he was known for his athletic abilities at Glebe Collegiate and at Carleton. In 1958-59, he was named Athlete of the Year at Carleton University and was a part of the first class of inductees voted into the Ravens Hall of Fame in 1996.

George’s presence will be missed in the Ottawa legal community.

At his memorial service, in lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to Canada Topflight Academy, to start an annual George House Memorial Scholarship Fund.
