Alan D’Silva, LL.B. 1987, Has Been Appointed As An Arbitrator Of The Court Of Arbitration For Sport, An International Body That Settles Sports Disputes

Alan D’Silva, LL.B. 1987, has joined a small group of arbitrators worldwide who hear professional and amateur sports cases on behalf of the Court of Arbitration For Sport (CAS).

These disputes can be commercial or disciplinary, such as doping-related cases. The CAS has jurisdiction over all Olympic international federations and many amateur and professional sports.

A graduate of the Common Law Section in 1987, D’Silva received the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law's alumni award in 2015 and was inducted to the Common Law Honour Society, considered to be law school's most prestigious alumni distinction.

D’Silva, who was called to the Ontario bar in 1989, is an expert in international arbitration and sports law.  He has acted as counsel, mediator, arbitrator, and an expert witness in Canadian courts of all levels.
