A visit from the University of Ottawa’s Health Promotion Team

Wednesday, March 11, 9:00-10:00am (Fauteux Lobby)

Meet UOHS Health Promotion's Healthy Minds team as they share ‘stress-busting’ tips and tricks to keep you smiling and help you let stress roll off your back.

Let’s Talk Wellness!

Wednesday, March 11, 11:30 – 13:00 pm (Atrium)

We will be hosting several professors, practitioners and upper-year students to discuss topics relating to mental health & wellness within the legal profession. This will be organized similar to a “speed-dating” event, where students will have a chance to hear from and/or speak with people within law. The guest speakers will share their experiences, providing “tips n’ tricks” on how to manage stress in law school and throughout your career. This will be an informal event where students may arrive as they please. We look forward to speaking with you! Register here!

Drop-in Beading Circle

Thursday, March 12 8:30-11:20am (FTX413)

Don’t bead? Don’t worry. Come learn! Bring your own project or work on one of ours – we are beading lapel pins and robots and loads of flowers and vines. In addition, we will be working on the academic regalia for the learners graduating in the spring. Beading is an important part of Métis material culture and the practice of beading is at once an act of creating and a meditative practice. Studies have shown that, while beading, the heart rate slows and the mind is calmed.

Introduction to Zen Class for University Students

Thursday, March 12, 12:00-2:00pm (240 Daly Ave. in Sandy Hill, at the corner of Daly Ave. and Friel St.)

Spaces are limited! Reserve your spot by clicking on the following link.

During this practical workshop, a monastic from the Zen Centre will provide instruction in posture and basic elements of Zen mindfulness practice, including an explanation of the difference between Zen practice and meditation. You will spend a portion of the time practising zazen (sitting Zen) and kinhin (walking Zen). By the end of the workshop, you will have enough information to begin to establish a practice at home if you wish.

You will be asked to remove your socks and shoes at the door. Please also remove and store unnecessary jewelry, watches, etc. During the workshop, you will be shown how to sit in zazen posture on cushions on the floor. Benches can be provided for those unable to sit on the floor. Loose clothing that will allow you to sit comfortably would be best. Bring a sweater if you tend to get cold as the monastery is a very old building.

Free Coffee & Tea outside Fauteux

Friday, March 13, 8:30 – 11:15 am
A great way to start your day! Please feel free to stop-by and grab some for some hot coffee, hot chocolate and, fresh tea outside of FTX.

Pet Therapy

Friday, March 13, 11:00am-12:00pm, 90 University, Room 151

The Student Academic Success Service (SASS) and Health Promotion (UOHS) offers an animal therapy program for University of Ottawa students. This initiative allows individuals who may be experiencing anxiety or are living through difficult or stressful situations to spend time with therapy dogs trained specifically to help in these types of situations.
