  Microprogram in Law and Technology

  The Microprogram in Law and Technology is the first program completely offered online, by the Faculty of Law. It was created to specifically meet the needs of the legal community. The Microprogram will enable students to understand  the complexities of the relationship between law and technology, to understand the impact technology has on the legal profession and justice system, to acquire the basic computer programming skills that facilitate legal problem solving and to adopt a comparative perspective on law and technology in different jurisdictions: the European Union, the United States and Canada. The aim is to provide its graduates with a unique expertise in law and technology and the ability to tackle the new challenges of this digital era.

  Professor Denis Boivin is proud to announce the publication of the second edition of his book, Le droit des assurances dans les provinces de common law. The first edition was published in 2006. Professor Boivin wrote this French book with the goal of making insurance law accessible to Francophones and Francophiles based in Common Law provinces (all of Canada except the province of Quebec).

• Carissima Mathen leads innovative new project on equality rights and the Supreme Court

  The Supreme Court is a central institution in Canadian law and politics, and yet, to date, there has been relatively little empirical research on its work.  Professor Carissima Mathen is leading a new project, funded by an Insight Development Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), that will use state-of-the-art legal data analytics to investigate Supreme Court of Canada (SCC) decisions, specifically probing how the Court has addressed equality claims.

  The Alex Trebek Forum for Dialogue at the University of Ottawa is supporting the creation of a new research project on water regulation and governance. The project will use water-related issues as a lens to identify climate change-induced problems and their ramifications, and then make recommendations to multi-level policymakers.
