On February 28th, The Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences hosted a Big Thinking lecture event featuring Mr. Allan Rock, President Emeritus of the University of Ottawa, former Senior Advisor to the World Refugee Council, Professor in the uOttawa Faculty of Law, and former federal minister. The lecture, entitled A call to action: Rethinking leadership in the global response to forced migration, drew on a recent report from the World Refugee Council and called for those present to take action in the area of forced migration.
Big Thinking on the Hill is a breakfast lecture series which brings leading Canadian researchers in the Social Sciences and Humanities to Parliament to speak on policy-relevant topics with members of Parliament, senators, public servants, and other stakeholders.
Big Thinking is a key activity of the Federation in promoting the importance and relevance of research in its disciplines. Delivering a lecture is a privilege offered only to researchers from the Federation’s member universities and partners.
Many MPs, Senators, and others attended the event, and it was clear from participants’ engagement that they valued the opportunity to learn from Mr. Rock and his insights and research.
