The Faculty of Law, Common Law Section is saddened to learn of the death of Thomas A. McDougall Q.C., LL.B. 1966, who passed away peacefully before sunrise on Monday, August 5 in Ottawa. As Chairman Emeritus and Founding Partner of Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall, he and the firm have had strong ties to the law school for decades.
Dean Dodek announced the appointment of Vivek Krishnamurthy as the inaugural Samuelson-Glushko Professor of Law and new Director of the Samuelson-Glushko Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC).
Dr. Florian Martin-Bariteau, and fellow member of the Centre for Law, Technology and Society, Dr. Elizabeth Dubois of the Faculty of Arts, are co-investigators on a strategic $2.5 Million Partnership Grant for journalism innovation from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) that will support the development of the Global Journalism Innovation Lab / Lab mondial d’innovation en journalisme. The Centre is also a partner of this strategic grant.
George Cyril House, Q.C., LL.B. 1962, passed away on June 23 at the age of 82. After graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts and then earning an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa, George practiced law in the Ottawa region for more than 45 years
In May 2019, I had the opportunity to accompany Professor John Packer, Director of the University of Ottawa’s Human Rights Research and Education Centre, to Juba, South Sudan to observe and assist with a Women’s Leadership Forum organized by the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
Dr. Teresa Scassa, Canada Research Chair in Information Law and Policy here at the University of Ottawa, has been named chair of a new Canadian Statistics Advisory Council. The Council was created to provide the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and the Chief Statistician of Canada with impartial and independent advice on matters concerning the overall quality of Canada's national statistical system in line with the principles entrenched in Canada's Digital Charter.
