David Scott, OC, QC, LL.B. 1960, D.U. 2001, has passed away at the age of 83. Mr Scott had a relationship with the University of Ottawa that spanned more than six decades. He was fiercely proud of his alma mater and continued to take an interest in the faculty and its students until his final days.
In the 10 years since Harley Finkelstein, MBA, LL.B. 2009, was in Fauteux Hall, he has gone on to complete his articling, be called to the bar, and then promptly join what has become Canadian e-commerce giant, Shopify. He has since been named COO of the company, and was back in Fauteux Hall on March 13 to speak about his journey.
On Tuesday, March 12, Professor Lawrence David and the sixty students in his section of the first-year Criminal Law and Procedure course were fortunate to host the Supreme Court of Canada's Justice Michael J. Moldaver.
For the fifth consecutive year, both University of Ottawa teams brought home some of the top prizes from the Walsh Family Law Negotiation Competition. The competition was held on March 9, 2019 at the Law Society in Toronto with competitors from across Ontario, Calgary and Saskatchewan. From uOttawa Team 2, Robert Barnes won first place for Best Individual Student and from uOttawa Team 1, Rachel Zweig won second place for Best Individual Student.
The University of Ottawa Common Law team of Marta Porodko (3L), Yvonna Belkina (2L), Gavin Inkster (2L) and Andrew Newman (2L) competed at the 2019 Davies’ Corporate/Securities Law Moot on March 8th and 9th. The uOttawa team beat out thirteen schools from across the country to win the prize for best factums.
Students from the University of Ottawa’s Programme de common law en français (PCLF) will be joined here in Ottawa by law students across Canada for the upcoming Michel Bastarache Moot Court Competition taking place March 22-24.
The 2019 uOttawa Common Law team finished as the Runner-Up National Canadian Champions at the Philip C. Jessup Moot. Team members include Mitchell Dorbyk (2L), Peter Knowlton (2L), Maggie MacDonald (3L), and Benjamin Rabinovitch (2L), coached by Professor Anthony Daimsis and Jolene Hansell (JD 2018).
