The Canadian Bar Association Awards honour legal professionals who have contributed not only to the association but also to the justice system and legal profession. The CBA considers the award recipients to be the brightest lights of the legal profession.
Many University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, alumni and friends were among this year’s Canadian Bar Association Awards recipients.
Congratulations to Vivene Salmon (LLB ’09) for being named one of the 2020 Top 25 Women of Influence by the empowerment organization Women of Influence, which calls her “a legal leader with a notable first.” Not only is Salmon a lawyer and vice-president, country compliance manager of global banking and markets compliance, at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, but she was also named president of the Canadian Bar Association in 2019.
The Centre for Environmental Law and Global Sustainability has received funding from the University of Ottawa, through the Alex Trebek Forum for Dialogue, Public Policy Initiative, to organize a campus-wide Game Jam!
In December 2019, Slava Balan, LLM, PhD candidate, enjoyed the enriching experience of accompanying Prof. John Packer, Neuberger-Jesin Professor of International Conflict Resolution, during visits to Geneva and Chisinau (the capital of Moldova) to advance minority rights and prevent conflicts.
On Saturday, February 8, 2020, students from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law’s Common Law and Civil Law Sections competed in the third annual Ottawa Law Classic hockey game at the uOttawa Minto Sports Complex.
