On November 19th and 21st, 2019, Faculty of Law students had the opportunity to sit in on two federal immigration court hearings. Both hearings were held in the Ian G. Scott courtroom. Students, guest lecturer Laila Demirdache, LLB 1997 and LLL 1998, and professors watched the proceedings behind the soundproof glass wall in the adjoining classroom.
We are proud to report that the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law is among the 100 best law schools in the world! According to Times Higher Education’s 2020 World University Rankings, the Faculty places 92nd out of 190 universities worldwide and 5th out of all Canadian law schools. This is an excellent achievement!

Congratulations to University of Ottawa Common Law alumnus Tom E. Ullyett who was appointed Chair of the Board of Governors at Yukon College by the government of Yukon in September 2019 for a three-year term.
The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple travelled to Canada from London in September for their 2019 Amity Tour and stopped in Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto. Two distinguished Canadian jurists were made honorary benchers of the Middle Temple during this tour: uOttawa grads Sheila Block LL.B. 1972 and the Rt. Hon. Richard Wagner, LL.L. 1979.
Canadian lawyer and University of Ottawa law school alumnus Dudley Maseko, JD ‘15, has established an academic scholarship program at Africa’s top-ranked university, the University of Cape Town, in Cape Town, South Africa.
