On March 10th, 2021, the Law Society of Ontario announced its 2021 award recipients. We want to congratulate Janice Payne, LLB ’74, and Laurie E. Joe, LLB ’85, for being amongst this year’s winners for receiving, respectively, the Law Society Medal and the J. Shirley Denison Award.
On March 3, 2021, The Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced the appointment of Janet E. Mills , LLB ‘91 , as a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993.
Priya Dube and Jeremy Cooney represented the Common Law Section at the 2021 Canadian National Negotiation Competition held virtually on February 26, 27 and 28. They placed an impressive fourth in a field of 20 schools, the largest since the competition began in 2017

The Common Law Section is pleased to announce the creation of the Common Law Section Students Community Enhancement and Anti-Racism Action Fund to support community enhancement initiatives stewarded by students from Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities. The Fund will also support students engaged in the development and implementation of projects, partnerships or events that promote anti-racism initiatives at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section.
