Professor Natasha Bakht has been recognized by IWD Ottawa, organizers of Ottawa’s International Women’s Day celebrations, with a 2017 Femmy Award in the Thought Leader category.
The Femmy Awards are intended to honour change-makers located in the National Capital Region who have made outstanding contributions to the struggle for gender equality. The Thought Leader award is given to educators, academics, NGO staff, researchers, or others whose innovative work has contributed to women’s equality. Professor Bakht was recognized for her scholarly work examining discrimination confronted by Muslim women in Canada.
The 2017 Femmy Awards were presented on March 8 – International Women’s Day – at a special celebration at Library and Archives Canada.
