Professor Denis Boivin was awarded the Order of Merit from the Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Ontario (AJEFO) on June 24, 2017. AJEFO’s Order of Merit is awarded annually to one or two individuals to recognize their contributions to promoting legal services in French, and their commitment to the Francophone community in Ontario.
Professor Boivin has long been a supporter of the development of common law in French in Ontario and is considered a leading voice in the areas of torts, remedies and insurance law. His publications are renowned for the clarity they bring to complex issues, and he is frequently cited by courts across Canada, including the Supreme Court. Professor Boivin has also served as a member of Financial Services Tribunal of Ontario since 2004, where he chairs disciplinary hearings involving insurance and mortgage intermediaries.
The other recipient of this year’s Order of Merit is Danielle Manton, Director of Court Operations (East Region) for the Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario. Ms. Manton is a former Executive Director of AJEFO.
Previous winners of this honour from the Common Law Section include François Larocque (2014), Nicole LaViolette (2014), Yves Le Bouthillier (2008), Nathalie Des Rosiers (2000), and Joseph Roach (1991).
Congratulations to both recipients!
