The Faculty of Law, Common Law Section is pleased to announce that Colleen Flood, University Research Chair in Health Law & Policy, and Jennifer Chandler, Bertram Loeb Research Chair, have been appointed to the Expert Panel on Medical Assistance in Dying by the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA).
The CCA is tasked with undertaking independent reviews related to medical assistance in dying, specifically, three particularly complex types of requests that were identified for further review and study in the legislation passed by Parliament in 2016. These include requests by mature minors, advance requests, and requests where mental illness is the sole underlying medical condition.
The Panel is comprised of 43 individuals, from Canada and abroad, who have expertise, knowledge, and leadership experience in a range of disciplines including law, medicine, ethics, social sciences, and health sciences, among others.
Congratulations to Professors Chandler and Flood, who are both members of the Centre for Health Law Policy & Ethics!
