Cavanagh LLP Professionalism Speaker Series

Since its inception in 2009, Common Law’s Professionalism Speaker Series – the first such series dedicated to issues of professionalism and ethics in the legal profession in Canada – has hosted over 20 events, attended by over 1,300 law students, lawyers and judges.  Speakers have included appellate judges, the Treasurer of the Law Society of Upper Canada, a former Attorney General, and leading academics and lawyers in the field.

With generous support from Cavanagh LLP, the newly-christened Cavanagh LLP Professionalism Speaker Series is pleased to continue the tradition of delivering valuable educational lectures, highlighting professionalism issues within academia and the profession.

Since the beginning of 2014, the Cavanagh LLP Professionalism Speaker Series has been approved as an Accredited Provider of Professionalism Content by the Law Society of Upper Canada.  All lectures in the series contain accredited Professionalism hours.

In addition to the speaker series lectures, the generous contribution from Cavanagh LLP has allowed the Common Law Section’s Professionalism Initiative, coordinated by Professor Adam Dodek, to appoint the first Cavanagh LLP Fellow in Professionalism and Ethics:  Common Law student, Alison Boyce.  Alison assists in administering the speaker series, and serves as a bright representative of the quality of education in professionalism and ethics at the Faculty of Law.

Cavanagh LLP is an Ottawa-based firm, recognized as a leader in civil litigation.  The firm and its lawyers are routinely commended for their professionalism, sound judgment and excellence in advocacy.
