Common Law students Chris Kreutzner and Tanner Oscapella placed 8th out of 18 teams at the International Negotiation Competition held in Pohang, South Korea. As the top ranked Canadian team, Chris and Tanner proudly represented Canada in the competition against teams from around the world.
The duo's winning streak began at the initial round of negotiation competitions held at the Ottawa office of Dentons Canada LLP. This victory qualified the pair for the American Bar Association's regional competition in Boston, where they became the champions, defeating teams from American and eastern Canadian law schools. Tanner and Chris then headed to Chicago, where they tied for the fifth place ranking overall in North America.
“We feel very fortunate to have had the privilege of participating in these competitions,” said Chris and Tanner. “We extend our appreciation not only to Dentons Ottawa for fully subsidizing these competitions, but especially to James Wishart (’09) of Dentons for his continued support, tireless coaching and mentorship, and for having confidence in our ability to be a winning team. His presence during many sleepless nights throughout this year-long adventure was what really helped us get as far as we did. Our success is as much his as it is ours.”
Chris and Tanner would also like to acknowledge Dentons’ offices in Ottawa and Calgary, the University of Ottawa and Davis LLP in Toronto for supporting Canada’s presence at the International Negotiation Competition. “Thanks to our sponsoring law firms and uOttawa, we were able to participate in this enriching opportunity, and for that alone, we will be forever grateful.”
